Water crisis: A major threat to agriculture

According to existing studies, Iran is facing a decrease in water resources and an increase in demand, which has a direct impact on agricultural production and food security. Long-term droughts and climate change have also exacerbated this crisis. In these circumstances, the use of modern irrigation technologies, modification of crop patterns, and water recycling can help reduce consumption and increase the productivity of water resources.

Overall, proper management of water resources and changes in irrigation and cultivation methods appear essential to maintain agricultural sustainability and ensure the country's food security. More than 70 percent of Iran's water consumption is used in the agricultural sector, he added, adding that traditional irrigation methods lead to significant water waste and put additional pressure on Iran's limited water resources.
